Tech Events for Kids in Boston – October 2015 Roundup

There are many ways to get your children involved in STEM-related activities this October.

October 1: Join the Girls Who Code club and learn to code at the Watertown Free Library. (Girls grades 6-12)

October 1: Learn about the Girls Who Code club at the Wellesley Free Library. (Girls grades 6-12)

October 1, 8, 15, 22, 29: Join the Science and Astronomy Club at the Beverly Public Library. (Grades 1-5)Programming

October 2, 5: Weekly Girls Who Code club at the Newton Free Library. (Girls grades 6-12)

October 3: Learn how to use everyday items and the ‘Makey Makey’ to complete an electronic circuit and control computer programs at the Wellesley Free Library.  

October 3: Learn about 3D printing at the Morse Institute Library in Natick.

October 3: Drop in for a special STEAM event unveiling the new Sound Wall at the Morse Institute Library in Natick. (Ages 3-10)

October 3: Visit the new Innovation Studio during an open house at the Morse Institute Library in Natick.

October 3, 9, 17, 31: Conduct simple science experiments, play fun games, and compete in building challenges at the Worcester Public Library. (Ages 9 – 12)

October 3, 10, 17, 24, 31: Explore computer science at Code It!, a free MIT computer programming class for middle school girls.

October 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, 25, 31: Hands-on engineering and design at the MIT Museum in Cambridge. Free with Museum admission. (Ages 12+)

October 5: A New Girls Who Code club is launching at the Cary Memorial Library in Lexington. (Girls grades 6-12)

October 6: Learn how 3D printing works with design software Tinkercad at the Newton Free Library. (Grades 2-5)

October 6: Visit Backyard Astronomy and learn about the new library telescope at the Morse Institute Library in Natick.

October 6, 13, 20, 27: Learn to code by fixing a phone app at Microsoft’s YouthSpark camp at their store in Boston. (Free; Beginner, K-12)

October 7: Learn how 3D printing works by using Tinkercad to design your own three-dimensional creation at the Newton Free Library. (Grades 6-12)

October 7, 14, 21: Hands-on scientific activities at the Watertown Free Public Library. (Ages 3-5)

October 7, 14, 21, 28: Learn to code by fixing a phone app at Microsoft’s YouthSpark camp at their store in Boston. (Free; Intermediate, K-12)

October 9: Participate in a STEM challenge and make a newspaper chair at the Burlington Public Library. (Grades 6-12)

October 10: Learn about and explore 3D printing at the Wellesley Free Library.

October 10, 17, 24, 31: Bring your family down to the Microsoft Boston store and learn video game design and coding. (Free; K-12)

October 13, 20: Learn the basics of 3D modeling with the web app Tinkercad at the Shrewsbury Public Library. (Ages 13+)

October 13, 14: Weekly Girls Who Code club Level 1 and Girls Who Code club Level 2 meetings at the Cambridge Public Library. (Girls grades 6-12)

October 14, 21, 28: Introduction to Linux for teens at the Newton Free Library. (Grades 6-12)

October 17: New Girls Who Code club launches at the Memorial Hall Library in Andover. Info sessions: Saturday, October 3 @ 11am and Thursday, October 8 @ 3:30pm. (Girls grades 6-12)

October 17: Attend Planets- Pluto and Beyond at Science on Saturday at MIT’s Kresge Auditorium in Cambridge. (All ages)

October 17: A Microsoft expert will help students create, code, and design games and apps with the latest technologies, including Kodu, TouchDevelop, and Project Spark at the Wellesley Free Library. (Grades 9-12)

October 21: Hands-on science experiments for young children at the Faneuil branch of the Boston Public Library.

October 22: Work with Scratch at the Newton Free Library. (Grades 3-6)

October 24: Design and print a 3D object at the Wellesley Free Library.

October 26: Do fun and easy science experiments with your preschooler at the Burlington Library. (Ages 3-6)

October 31: Attend Cyber Tricks and Cyber Treats at Science on Saturday at Lincoln Lab in Lexington. (Ages 5-17)

October 31: Learn math with stories at the Cary Memorial Library in Lexington. (Ages 3-5)
