There are many ways to get your children involved in STEM-related activities this March.

March (various dates): Learn to code with CodeCampKidz and write HTML, CSS & Javascript code at the Microsoft Store in the Burlington Mall and Natick Mall. Intro classes free. (Grades 6, 7, 8)

March 1: Explore Lego WeDo robotics at the Belmont Public Library. (Grades 2-4)Science Fair

March 1, 8, 15, 22, 29: Use your imagination to make your own creations with LEGOs, Lincoln Logs and more at the Roosevelt branch of the Worcester Public Library.

March 2, 9, 16, 23, 30: Learn Python programming language, a very powerful language in wide use by professional software engineers but very accessible to beginners at the Boston Public Library. (Ages 13-18)

March 2, 9, 16, 23, 30: Use your imagination to make your own creations with LEGOs, Lincoln Logs and more at the Burncoat branch of the Worcester Public Library.

March 3: Free admission to The Discovery Museums in Acton.

March 4: View student exhibits at the 71st Annual Boston Public Schools Citywide/MA Region VI Science Fair at Northeastern University.

March 4: Learn about chemistry at Science on Saturday at MIT. Free.

March 4: Join in a STEAM activity at the Grove Hall branch of the Boston Public Library. (Ages 6-12)

March 4, 11, 18: Use your imagination to make your own creations with LEGOs, Lincoln Logs and more at the  Worcester Public Library.

March 6: Learn how to use computer programming to code finch robots at the Newton Free Library. (Grades 7-12)

March 6, 13, 20, 27: Learn beginner science concepts with the help of books and fun activities at the Worcester Public Library. (Ages 3-5)

March 6, 13, 20, 27: Put on a lab coat and enter the Maker Lab and create new things at the Worcester Public Library. (Ages 9-12)

March 7, 14, 21, 28: Use your imagination to make your own creations with LEGOs, Lincoln Logs and more at the Tatnuck branch of the Worcester Public Library.

March 8: Learn how to build structures and run simple games in Minecraft with the Raspberry Pi microcomputer and Python programming language! at the Grove Hall branch of the Boston Public Library. (Ages 11+)

March 11: Learn how to create your own website with HTML and CSS from Tufts Girls of Code at Tufts University! Free. (Ages 10-18)

March 11: Learn about the science of weather at Science on Saturday at Lincoln Lab. Free. (Ages 5-17)

March 11: Join an educator from the Children’s Museum of Easton for technology fun with Squishy Circuits at the Thomas Crane Public Library in Quincy.

March 11, 26: Learn how to code, program, and play in your own gaming world in Minecraft Hour of Code at the Microsoft Store in the Natick Mall. Free. (Grades K-12)

March 11, 12: Participate in MIT Spark and take a bunch of short classes on a huge variety of cool topics at MIT in Cambridge. Cost: $40 (7-8 grade)

March 12: Attend the Boston STEM Fair and learn about STEM summer camps, after-school programs, college planning and tech entrepreneurship at the Arsenal Project Shopping Center in Watertown. Free and open to the public. (For parents and kids K-12)

March 12: Join the new Coding Club at Empow Studios and learn Java, regardless of any previous coding experience. Cost: $80/mo (Grades 1-8)

March 13-17: Tech & Design Week kicks off at Empow Studios for kids home from private school break.  Cost: $390/wk (Grades 1-8)

March 14: Build a synthesizer and rock out using Sonic Pi, a programming environment at the Cambridge Public Library.

March 16: Explore science, technology, engineering, art, & math with an activity to encourage your curiosity at the Cary Memorial Library in Lexington. (Grades 4-6)

March 16: Explore and work with Scratch to create games, animation and stories at the Newton Free Library. (Grades 3-4)

March 17, 18: Join Museum educators along with guest scientists and engineers as they explore the connection between the brain and technology, including brain mapping and manipulation at a Health Fair at the Museum of Science. Cost: Free with Exhibit Halls admission. (PreK-12 and adults)

March 17, 18, 19: Watch a robotics competition at the third annual New England FIRST® North Shore District Event at Reading Memorial High School. Free and open to public.

March 18: Participate in a hackathon and explore Python at the Belmont Public Library. (Ages 12-18)

March 18: Attend a casual, math-themed storytime at the Cary Memorial Library in Lexington. (Ages 3-5)

March 18, 25: Attend Northeastern University’s Splash program and take a variety of classes including science, engineering and math. Free (Grades 9-12)

March 20-24: Minecraft Week kicks off at Empow Studios for kids home from private school break. Cost: $390/wk (Grades 1-8)

March 23:  Explore math, science, and the arts with children’s books and related activities at the Newton Free Library. (Ages 3-5)

March 24: Attend Science in Motion, a mesmerizing blend of comedy and science at the Frances Perkins Branch of the Worcester Public Library. (Ages 12 and under)

March 25: Attend SET in the City and participate in hands-on science activities led by professionals in Boston and Cambridge. Cost: $25 (Girls, Grades 9-12)

March 25: Learn how to make something using a 3D printer at the HATCH makerspace in the Arsenal Project Shopping Center in Watertown. (Ages 8-13)

March 25: Come together for a 3-hour hackathon where you use data science, the Python Programming Language, and your clever wits and instincts to find creative solutions to a real-life problem at the Central library in Copley Square. (Grades 6-12)

March 26: Attend a 3D Modeling & Printing workshop at Empow Studios. Full ticket price of the workshop is donated to the PMC for cancer care & research. Cost: $30. (Grades 1-8)

Girls Who Code Clubs

The Girls Who Code Clubs Program teaches computer science to 6th-12th grade girls. Girls who participate in the clubs will receive 40 hours of instruction from volunteer instructors in computer science including project based activities to reinforce concepts like conditionals, lists, and loops as well as skills like mobile app development.

Girls Who Code Clubs are free and many are held at libraries and schools. With the growth of the clubs, I am now including a list of the clubs for Massachusetts here.
